1317 - A rare and unusual gol farang hand knotted Persian Bijar rug

These Bijar rugs originate from the far west of Persia. This rug illustrates the influence of French design on Persian art. Gol Farang means foreign flower and the weavers decided that they would cater for foreign tastes by weaving their interpretation of roses into rugs. Although a little low the natural dyes and soft colours still mean this is a rare and lovely rug.

Wool on cotton.  Circa 1920
